Wings of the Whispering Tempest
Wondrous Item (Wings), rare (requires attunement
Forged from the ethereal feathers of a tempestuous storm elemental, these wings are an intricate blend of shimmering blues and silvery whites, almost translucent in appearance. When donned, they wrap around the wearer’s back, granting an otherworldly grace that allows for limited flight. While wearing these wings, the attuned individual gains a flying speed of 60 feet.
In addition to their flight capability, the wings hum a low, melodic tone that resonates with the power of wind. When the wearer activates the wings as a bonus action, they can choose to create a powerful gust of wind in a 30-foot cone emanating from themselves. Each creature in that area must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + proficiency bonus + Charisma modifier) or be pushed back 15 feet and knocked prone. A creature that fails the save is also deafened until the end of its next turn.
Once used, this gust feature cannot be used again until the wearer has completed a short or long rest. Furthermore, the wearer can use the wings to cast the Feather Fall spell once per day without expending a spell slot.
When in flight, the wings allow for swift maneuvers. When the wearer takes damage while flying, they can use their reaction to reduce the damage by 1d10 + their Dexterity modifier, representing the wings’ ability to buffer against the brisk winds.
However, the wings come with a cost; the wearer may feel a restless urge to fly. If they remain on the ground for more than an hour without taking flight, they must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 13) or become compelled to take to the air for at least one minute, during which they cannot willingly land or descend, instead moving upwards as if caught in an unseen gust.
These wings do not simply provide the ability to soar through the skies; they challenge their bearers to embrace the chaos of the storm, making each flight a wild adventure in potential danger and exhilarating freedom.
