A swirling mass of shadows and flickering lights, this creature appears as an ethereal figure draped in veils of darkness. Its form shifts and changes, emanating an eerie, otherworldly glow that seems to absorb the light around it. The Veiled Apparition of the Shattered Abyss has no distinct shape, yet hints of its face can be seen through the veils—a haunting visage that evokes both despair and curiosity. It is said to be the manifestation of lost souls, drawn into the void of shattered dreams and unfulfilled desires. When it manifests, it brings with it an unsettling breeze that rattles the hearts of those nearby. Adventurers often find themselves haunted by their own insecurities when confronting this creature, making it both a dangerous foe and a twisted reflection of their fears.

Amorphous Form. The creature can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing.

Ethereal Sight. The creature can see 60 feet into the Ethereal Plane when it is on the Material Plane, and vice versa.

Life Drain. Melee Spell Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 27 (5d10) necrotic damage, and the target's hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the damage taken. This reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest. If a creature's hit point maximum is reduced to 0 in this way, it dies.

Frightening Veil (Recharge 5-6). Each creature within 30 feet must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Soulbind (Recharge 6). The creature binds the soul of a fallen enemy to itself. When it reduces a creature to 0 hit points, it can choose to bind its essence, allowing it to cast the scrying spell without material components, sensing the location of the slain target for up to 10 days.

Actions

Multiattack. The creature makes two Life Drain attacks.

Ethereal Jaunt. The creature can shift from the Material Plane to the Ethereal Plane as a bonus action. While in the Ethereal Plane, it can move through objects and creatures as if they were difficult terrain.

Rejuvenate Shadows (1/Day). The creature regains 20 hit points for each creature it has slain within the last 24 hours. If it has no slain enemies, this feature has no effect.
