This dark, flowing cloak appears to be woven from shadows themselves, with an ethereal quality that seems to shift and ripple as if alive. It is adorned with intricate silver embroidery depicting vague, whispering figures that seem to blend seamlessly into the fabric. When worn, the cloak grants a heightened connection to the unseen, enabling the wearer to influence and eavesdrop on the thoughts of those nearby.
While wearing this cloak, you gain the following benefits:

Whispering Shadows: Once per short rest, you can target one creature within 30 feet that can hear you. Attempt to read its mind as a bonus action. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier) or you glean a single thought or desire that the creature is currently focused on. The target is aware of your intrusion but cannot identify you, as the shadows obscure your presence.

Evasive Veil: You have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks to hide while in dim light or darkness. Your cloak flows with the shadows, making it difficult for observers to pinpoint your location.

Shadowstep: As a bonus action, you can use the cloak to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in dim light or darkness. You must return to a space that you can see within 1 minute or else you are automatically returned to the previous location, taking 2d6 force damage as you are momentarily lost in the void.

Dark Aura: As an action, you can activate the cloak to create a 10-foot-radius sphere of magical darkness centered on yourself that lasts for 1 minute or until you dismiss it (no action required). This darkness spells obscures sight, and creatures must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or become frightened while within the area. You can use this feature once per long rest.
However, while the cloak grants significant power, it has its drawbacks. Each time you use its abilities, there is a cumulative 10% chance (roll a d100) that shadows from the cloak will linger, drawing potential threats towards you. If this occurs, all creatures within a 30-foot radius of you become aware of your location for 1 hour, sensing the unnatural presence of the cloak.
This item rewards clever use and stealth, encouraging its bearer to engage with the shadows while navigating its potential risks.
