Veil of Flickering Shadows

Wondrous Item (Cloak), rare (requires attunement)

This ethereal cloak appears spun from the very essence of shadows, constantly shifting and changing in color, with patterns resembling flickering flames or dancing silhouettes. When adorned, the wearer feels an unsettling comfort, as if they are partially woven into the fabric of twilight itself.

While wearing this cloak, the wearer gains advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made in dim light or darkness. Additionally, they can use a bonus action to activate the cloak's primary ability, allowing them to become partially incorporeal for a brief moment. For 1 minute, the wearer gains the ability to move through creatures and objects as if they are difficult terrain. This effect ends early if the wearer ends their turn inside a creature or an object, taking 2d10 force damage.

Once this feature is used, it cannot be used again until the wearer finishes a short or long rest.

As an added boon, if the wearer is attacked while partially incorporeal, they can use their reaction to momentarily flicker, imposing disadvantage on the attack roll. This ability can be used once per round and regains its use after the wearer finishes a short or long rest.

The cloak whispers secrets from beyond the veil, occasionally filling the mind of the wearer with fleeting visions. While attuned, the wearer may roll a d6 after a failed Wisdom saving throw; on a roll of 5 or 6, they can choose to reroll the saving throw and must use the new result. This property can be used once per long rest.

However, the cloak's power comes at a cost. Prolonged use may invite the attention of shadowy entities. At the end of each day the cloak is worn, the wearer must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or gain one level of exhaustion, as they struggle to resist the allure of the shadows. The wearer can only be exhausted in this way if they have not already gained exhaustion from other means.
