Veil of Ethereal Whispers
Wondrous Item (Cloak), rare (requires attunement)
This diaphanous cloak shimmers with an ethereal quality, its fabric seeming to flow like mist around the wearer. The interior is lined with a delicate pattern of runes that flicker softly in low light, whispering secrets of the unseen realms.
Once attuned, the wearer gains the following benefits:
-
Ethereal Step: As a bonus action, the wearer can enter the Ethereal Plane for up to 10 minutes. While in this state, they can move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. If the wearer ends their turn inside a creature or object, they take 1d10 force damage and are immediately forced back to the Material Plane. This ability can be used once per long rest.
-
Whispers of Knowledge: While wearing this cloak, the user can cast the Augury spell without expending a spell slot. In addition, once per day, the wearer can ask the cloak a single question and receive an answer from the whispers within. This answer may provide a hint, guidance, or information related to the inquiry, but it is always cryptic and requires interpretation.
-
Veil of Shadows: The wearer has advantage on Stealth checks made while in dim light or darkness. Furthermore, once per short rest, they can become invisible for 1 minute by wrapping the cloak tightly around themselves. This effect ends if the wearer attacks or casts a spell.
The cloak carries a lingering aura of mystery, and the voices within seem to take on a life of their own. During moments of solitude, the wielder might even hear soft laughter or sighs from the cloak, hinting at the secrets it possesses.
