Veil of Echoes
Wondrous Item (Cloak), rare (requires attunement)
This shimmering cloak appears to be woven from strands of liquid silver, shifting and changing with the light. When worn, it feels cool against the skin and grants an unsettling aura of mystery, as whispers seem to echo softly around the wearer.
The wearer can activate the cloak as a bonus action to create an illusory double of themselves, which lasts for up to 1 minute and can be moved up to 30 feet away from them. This illusory double is not tangible and cannot attack or interact with objects, but it can be used to deceive enemies. The wearer may choose to have the double mimic their movements and even cast spells, though any spells cast by the double require the wearer to spend their own spell slots or use their own actions, depending on the spell’s requirements.
Once per short rest, as a reaction, the wearer can absorb one incoming spell within a 30-foot range, misconstruing it into non-existence. The wearer must succeed on a saving throw against the spell’s DC to absorb it, and when successful, they gain temporary hit points equal to the spell's level + their proficiency bonus.
Additionally, when the wearer is damaged by a creature within 60 feet, they can choose to teleport to a location within 10 feet of their illusory double immediately, allowing them to evade danger. This ability can be used once per long rest but may only be activated after a successful saving throw against a hostile spell.
Should the wearer cease to concentrate on the illusions or if the cloak is removed, the double disappears without leaving a trace. The echoes of whispers that surround the cloak can sometimes offer hints about nearby threats, granting the wearer advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to detect creatures attempting to sneak up on them.
