Spectral Band of Echoing Whispers

Wondrous Item (Ring), rare (requires attunement)

This delicate silver band is cool to the touch and adorned with tiny, swirling patterns that seem to shift and change as you observe them. When wearing this ring, you can hear faint echoes in the air around you, whispers of past conversations and secrets waiting to be uncovered.

While attuned to the ring, you gain the ability to cast the Ghostly Whispers spell once per long rest. When activated, you can fill a 30-foot radius sphere with spectral voices that can be heard clearly only by those you choose within the area. These whispers are harmless, but they can convey information, sow confusion, or distract enemies. Targets affected must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or become confused, granting them disadvantage on Intelligence-based checks and saving throws until the end of their next turn.

Additionally, once per day, you can use the echoes of the ring to commune with the spirits of the past. Doing so allows you to ask three questions related to a specific location you are in or a recent event that has transpired nearby. The answers you receive will be cryptic at best, but they can help guide you, offering you insights that could influence your next move.

The band also has an interesting side effect: during combat, when you deal damage with a spell, the echoes of the ring amplify your magic. The next affected target within 60 feet hears an echoing laugh of dread, causing them to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, they become frightened until the end of their next turn.

However, despite its power, the temperamental nature of the whispers can occasionally be overwhelming. Each time you utilize the Ghostly Whispers ability, roll a d20. On a roll of 1, the band momentarily overwhelms you, and you must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or take 1d4 psychic damage and be unable to use the ring’s abilities again until you take a short or long rest.

This ring offers both a means of gathering intelligence and an option to manipulate the battlefield, making it a valuable asset for any adventurer lucky enough to possess it.
