Locket of Echoing Whispers
Wondrous Item (Locket), rare (requires attunement)
This intricate locket is crafted in the shape of a delicate music box, with ornate engravings depicting various celestial bodies. When held, a soft hum resonates from within, and the air around it faintly shimmers with ethereal light.
While attuned to this locket, you gain the ability to tap into the whispers of those who have come before you. As a bonus action, you can activate the locket to cast the Guidance spell without using a spell slot, allowing a target of your choice to add a d4 to one ability check of their choosing. The locket has three charges and regains one charge at dawn.
Additionally, you can use an action to listen to the echoes within. For the next hour, you gain advantage on Insight and Investigation checks as the voices of past travelers and scholars guide your thoughts. Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
In moments of peril, the locket reveals its hidden power. When you or an ally within 30 feet drops to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to expend one charge and revive them with 1d8 hit points. The revived target hears a soothing whisper that lingers in their mind, granting them temporary advantage on their next saving throw or attack roll.
However, those attuned to the locket must be cautious. The voices within can sometimes be overwhelming. If the locket is used to cast Guidance more than twice in a single day, the whispers may become disorienting. Roll a d20; on a roll of 1-5, you gain disadvantage on your next initiative roll as uncertainty clouds your mind.
