Ethereal Veil of Shifting Shadows

Wondrous Item (Cloak), rare (requires attunement)

This flowing cloak shimmers with a subtle iridescence, reflecting shades of deep blues and smoky greys. When donning the cloak, it feels as though an otherworldly breeze wraps around you, granting a sense of comfort and concealment.

While wearing the cloak, you gain the following benefits:

  • Ethereal Movement: You can use a bonus action to briefly shift into the Ethereal Plane, allowing you to move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. You remain in this state for up to 10 seconds and can return to the Material Plane as a part of the same bonus action or if you choose to end the effect early.

  • Shadow Meld: When you are in dim light or darkness, you have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured. Additionally, as an action, you can become invisible until the start of your next turn, expending one use. You have three uses of this ability, and it regains all expended uses after a long rest.

  • Veil of Shadows: The cloak is adorned with shifting patterns resembling shadowy figures. Once per long rest, you can invoke the cloak to create an area of magical darkness in a 15-foot radius centered on yourself or a point you can see within 60 feet. This darkness lasts for 1 minute or until dispelled and blocks all light, including magical light.

However, the cloak also has a drawback; if you use the Ethereal Movement ability, you must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or experience vivid fragments of memories from the Shadow Realm. If you fail this saving throw, you are frightened until the end of your next turn.

This mystical garment is a favored choice among spies and rogues, steeped in legends of its previous owners who danced between the realms to unravel secrets and evade capture.
