A twisted amalgamation of shadow and despair, this creature drifts through the gloom of forgotten places, feeding on fear and regret. Its body seems to meld into the shadows, with an ever-shifting form that fluctuates between ghastly humanoid and amorphous void. Its eyes glow faintly like dying stars, and its whispers can chill the heart of even the bravest adventurer. Those whom it encounters find themselves stalked by an overwhelming sense of doom, as if even the concept of hope is being devoured by the abyss. When it strikes, it sows nightmares that linger long after the battle has ended, and those who succumb to its spectral allure are never quite the same again.

Ethereal Step. The creature can move through walls and solid objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage for every 10 feet traveled through an object.
Nightmare Echo. When a creature within 60 feet of this creature makes an attack roll, it can use its reaction to force the attacker to reroll the attack. The attacker must use the new roll.
Legendary Actions
The creature can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The creature regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
- Shadow Strike. The creature makes one melee attack.
- Whisper of Despair (Costs 2 Actions). The creature targets one creature it can see within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of its next turn.
- Consume Fear (Costs 3 Actions). The creature siphons the fear from one creature that is frightened within 60 feet, regaining 1d10 hit points and imposing disadvantage on the frightened creature's next saving throw.
