Eclipse Crystal of Time's Embrace

Wondrous Item (Gem), rare (requires attunement)

This shimmering black crystal, infused with swirling shades of violet and silver, pulses with an ethereal energy. When held, the crystal feels cool to the touch, almost as if it draws the warmth from one's hand. Intricate moon and sun motifs are etched along its facets, and when held up to the light, the patterns shift as if embodying the very essence of time itself.

While attuned to this gem, you gain the following benefits:

  • Temporal Shift: As a reaction when you or an ally within 30 feet is hit by an attack, you can activate the crystal to briefly pause time for a fraction of a second. The target can roll a d4 and subtract the result from the attack roll, potentially causing the attack to miss.

  • Echo of Actions: Once per long rest, you can harness the power of the crystal to replay a single action. Choose one of your previous turns from the current combat. As a bonus action, you can take that same action again, allowing you to relive a successful spell cast, attack, or movement. However, if this action includes a spell, the spell slot must be expended again.

  • Momentary Insight: The crystal grants advantage on one Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throw per short or long rest, allowing you to foresee threats or potentially altering outcomes in social encounters. The user feels a momentary flash of the future, guiding their decisions.

  • Custodian of Time: Once you have used any of the abilities, roll a d20. On a roll of 1, the crystal absorbs some of your vitality, causing you to take 1d6 necrotic damage, as the balance between time and energy shifts perilously.

The crystal pulses with a gentle light in the presence of time-themed magic or constructs, allowing the bearer to navigate temporal anomalies, though the nature of such encounters is left to the Dungeon Master to determine. The crystal thrives on the complexities of moments held dear, but its powers come with responsibilities, as history has taught that time is a delicate tapestry best left undisturbed.
