Crown of Echoing Whispers
Wondrous Item (Crown), rare (requires attunement)
Crafted from shimmering silver threads and inlaid with delicate, multicolored gemstones, this crown hums with an otherworldly resonance. When worn, the crown grants the wearer an array of unique abilities, imbued with the whispers of long-passed voices seeking to offer wisdom or create mischief.
While attuned, the wearer gains the following benefits:
-
Whispered Advice: Once per long rest, the wearer can listen to the quiet whispers of the past. By spending an action, the wearer can ask a question regarding their immediate surroundings or current situation. The DM will provide a cryptic but helpful hint or piece of information, which may guide the wearer in the right direction or reveal hidden dangers.
-
Echoing Voice: The whispers within the crown can amplify the wearer’s voice. As a bonus action, the wearer can create an echoing effect, allowing them to be heard clearly up to 300 feet away. Additionally, when the wearer uses this ability, they can impose disadvantage on any Wisdom saving throws against being charmed for creatures within 30 feet of them until the start of the wearer’s next turn.
-
Whispering Shadows: Once per short rest, the wearer can summon shadowy duplicates of themselves, creating an illusion that allows them to divert attacks. For one minute, the wearer has advantage on Dexterity saving throws, and any creature that targets them with an attack must first succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or target a shadow duplicate instead. The duplicates dissipate if they are hit.
Additionally, if the wearer hears an actual whispering voice while wearing the crown, they can choose to roll a d6: on a 1-3, nothing happens; on a 4-6, the whispers strengthen the wearer’s resolve, granting them inspiration for the next ability check or attack roll, which lasts for one round.
If the crown is ever removed against the wearer’s will, the whispers within erupt into a cacophony of chaotic voices. The wearer must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be stunned until the end of their next turn, disoriented by the sudden silence that follows the removal.
