Cloak of Whispers and Secrets
Wondrous Item (Cloak), rare (requires attunement)
This elegant cloak is woven from shimmering fabric that seems to shift colors with the light, reflecting hues of deep blue and silver. When worn, the cloak feels as if it is alive, subtly shifting to conform perfectly to the wearer’s body. The stitching appears to be in an intricate pattern resembling swirling winds and whispers.
While wearing this cloak, you gain the following benefits:
-
Whispered Secrets: You have advantage on all Wisdom (Insight) and Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to interact with creatures who have secrets to share. Furthermore, once per long rest, you can cast the Detect Thoughts spell without using a spell slot, but you can only focus on the surface thoughts of the target.
-
Evasive Whispers: As a reaction, when a creature targets you with an attack, you can cloak yourself in one of the whispers of the tapestry, imposing disadvantage on the attack roll. You can use this feature three times and regain all expended uses after a long rest.
-
Veil of Shadows: While wearing the cloak, you can cast Invisibility on yourself once per long rest. However, if you do so, the cloak emits faint whispers that are audible within a 10-foot radius. These whispers can reveal your location if others are nearby, so choose your moment wisely.
Curiously, the fabric also features a hidden pocket that can hold one small object (no larger than a dagger). Each time you place an item within, you hear a soft whisper warning you what must be done to retrieve it. Once the item is removed, the memory of the whisper fades, but it can be recalled with an Intelligence (Arcana) check (DC 15).
The cloak has a faint, lingering aroma of aged parchment and incense, enticing the curious and wary alike. When attuned, the wearer feels a pull towards the secrets of the world, making it easier to uncover hidden truths.
