Cloak of the Ethereal Step
Wondrous Item (Cloak), rare (requires attunement)
This flowing cloak shimmers faintly with a translucent quality that seems to flicker in and out of reality. When worn, the garment feels lighter than air, and the fabric is unlike anything you've encountered—smooth and almost weightless, reminiscent of drifting smoke. Subtle patterns of ethereal mist swirl across its surface, hinting at the great powers contained within.
While wearing this cloak, you can use a bonus action to manipulate your position on the battlefield. Once per short rest, you may expend a charge to cast the Misty Step spell without requiring an action. The cloak has 3 charges, regaining 1d3 expended charges at dawn.
Additionally, while wearing the cloak, you gain resistance to force damage. You also have advantage on saving throws against being grappled or restrained, as the cloak allows you to shimmer and slip past would-be captors with uncanny ease.
On a natural roll of 20 on an attack roll made while you are wearing the cloak, you can activate a unique effect: for that turn, you may teleport to any unoccupied space you can see within 30 feet as part of that attack, reappearing in a wisp of smoke and granting you advantage on your next attack roll against the same target before the end of your next turn.
However, the ephemeral nature of the cloak can be a double-edged sword. If the cloak is removed or you attempt to take it off while not attuned, the wearer must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of their next turn, lost in the shifting mists of the weave that the cloak embodies.
Despite its powers, the cloak carries an air of mystique, hinting that it is tied to obscure realms beyond, where the lines of reality blur. As such, anyone attuned to it may feel an increasing draw toward the unknown, seeking to explore the depths of the ethereal plane.
