Cloak of Shadows and Echoes

Wondrous Item (Cloak), rare (requires attunement)

This flowing cloak appears to be made from threads of darkness, subtly shifting and swirling as though imbued with smoke. While wearing it, you feel a palpable connection to the shadows and echoes of sound that surround you.

The cloak grants you advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in dim light or darkness. As a bonus action, you can activate the cloak, enveloping yourself in an aura of shadows that causes the next attack against you to have disadvantage. This effect lasts until the start of your next turn or until you take damage.

Furthermore, when you activate the cloak, you also gain the ability to create illusory duplicates of yourself. You can create two illusory duplicates that mimic your movements and actions. These duplicates persist for up to 1 minute or until you end the effect as a bonus action. While active, whenever an enemy targets you for an attack, they must resolve the attack against one of your duplicates instead. If a duplicate is hit, it instantly vanishes.

Once you use the ability to create these duplicates, you cannot do so again until you finish a short or long rest. Additionally, your mastery of shadows allows you to harness their dangerous echoes. Once per long rest, you can cast the Silence spell, as if you had used a 3rd-level spell slot, enveloping an area in profound stillness.

However, the cloak is also a reminder of the duality of shadows. Each time you use the echo ability, you must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or suffer a brief bout of paranoia, giving you disadvantage on saving throws against being frightened until the end of your next turn. Harnessing the mysterious powers of shadows and echoes requires a delicate balance between control and surrender.
