The air is thick with an otherworldly chill, and an echo of soft laughter fills the room, hinting at the celebrations that once took place here. To progress further into the hall, they will first need to resolve a puzzle that blocks the path ahead—a massive mirror adorned with arcane runes. Closer inspection will reveal that the symbols depict the players' own past achievements and failures. Each player must step forward, face the symbol of their greatest triumph and greatest regret, and speak aloud their significance.

Once the symbols are properly matched based on the players’ shared experiences in the campaign, the fog will clear, allowing passage deeper into the hall, but not without consequence. The barrier, now dispelled, awakens the hall’s magic, and the reflections begin to manifest.

  • Reflection of the Rogue: Shadowy and stealthy, this reflection uses the environment to its advantage, setting traps with shards of glass and taunting the rogue about their dishonorable acts.

  • Reflection of the Cleric: This figure holds a twisted staff, capable of casting a spell to siphon life from its enemies, mocking the cleric for their doubts about their faith and healing capabilities.

The battle rages on as the reflections coordinate, striking at the players' vulnerabilities while simultaneously feeding off the players' insecurities. Players can opt to spend their actions actively overcoming their Reflection’s taunts, granting advantage on their next attack or defensive maneuver.

Environmental Challenges

While the players contend with their doppelgängers, the hall itself plays its part in the encounter. The shattered shards of mirror on the floor serve as dangerous terrain. Each turn, players must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw (DC 14) or take slashing damage from the sharp fragments. To mitigate this, players may attempt acrobatics or other creative tactics to navigate the dangerous space.

Additionally, every turn, a mirror will glow and can absorb one spell cast by the players, reflecting it back at a random target within the room. This mirrors the unpredictability of their own choices and the consequences they bring.

Players must work together, utilizing their knowledge of each other, recalling moments they shared during their campaign together, to align the segments in a way that symbolizes unity and strength.

Once the crystal is united, a bright light erupts from the altar, illuminating the hall. The curse holding the castle in despair starts to unravel, the reflections fade from existence, and the grand nature of the hall is restored. With a final surge of magic, the players are granted a boon: the ability to step through the newly formed portal, leading to a new adventure waiting beyond the fracture in reality.

The players have now acquired not only the Shattered Crystal but also a strong binding of camaraderie and lessons learned, strengthened by the confrontation with themselves and the dungeon’s powerful magic.
