This intricately crafted amulet is shaped like a pair of interlocking crescent moons, each made from a shimmering silver metal that seems to hum softly with the presence of unseen voices. When worn, it grants its bearer the ability to hear echoes of conversations from the past, allowing them to gather information that may have long since faded into silence.
While attuned to this amulet, you can use an action to activate its power, choosing a location you are familiar with or have previously visited within the last 30 days. For the next hour, you can hear echoed whispers of conversations that took place in that location. You may ask up to three specific questions about the events or topics discussed within the last month, and the amulet will provide you answers through haunting, disembodied echoes.
Additionally, you gain advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) checks made to gather information or uncover secrets in that area while the ability is active. However, the echoes come with a price; for every question asked, the whispers of despair from the past grow stronger, increasing your difficulty with Wisdom saving throws by 1 for the next hour.
Once you use this ability, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest. The amulet also has a unique bond with the wearer; if you fall unconscious while attuned to it, the amulet emits an alluring sound that instills a sense of calm in nearby allies, granting them a +2 bonus to their next saving throw to resist being frightened within the next minute.
Misusing the amulet or asking questions that delve into areas of deep pain or trauma may attract unwanted attention from supernatural entities tied to those echoes, creating a mystery that could lead your party into unexpected encounters.
