Amulet of Endless Echoing Whispers
Wondrous Item (Amulet), rare (requires attunement)
This intricate amulet is crafted from deep azure crystal, set within a delicate silver filigree that depicts swirling winds and ancient runes. When the wearer attunes to the amulet, they can hear soft whispers emanating from it—echoes of those who once wielded it, long forgotten tidings of wisdom, secrets, or warnings.
While wearing this amulet, the user can use a bonus action to activate the whispers, granting them advantage on one Insight or Persuasion check made in the next minute. Additionally, if the wearer fails such a check, they can choose to roll the d20 again and take the second result.
The amulet also has a mysterious connection to the ethereal realm. Once per long rest, the wearer can use an action to cast Detect Thoughts (save DC 15) without expending a spell slot or requiring material components. While the spell is active, the wearer can choose to hear the whispers of thoughts from within a 30-foot radius, giving them an eerie understanding of intentions and fears.
However, the amulet's power comes with a price. Whenever the wearer uses its abilities, they must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or become overwhelmed by the cacophony of voices, suffering disadvantage on the next attack roll or saving throw they make within the next hour.
Hidden within the beautiful craftsmanship of the amulet lies a sphere of unfulfilled secrets. It arguably possesses a fragment of knowledge lost to time, and should the wearer know someone capable of speaking with the dead, they may attempt to draw on the amulet's powers, allowing the voices within to communicate with them, offering cryptic advice or historical insight about the world, but equally risking madness as the whispers grow louder.
